Also, a classical issue is if the points are expressed in a 'geographical' coordinate system with X and Y being angles, and Z being in meters (i.e. with a totally different scale). CC expects all 3 dimensions to be the same.

If you use quite recent versions of CloudCompare, you have an option to show the points as circle in the 'Display > Display settings' dialog.

That's weird...
2 questions:
- what graphic card do you have?
- what about the 'try to load cloud(s) on the GPU...' option? Is it checked? Does it change something if you change its state?

The issue is indeed with the Global Shift (if not right, you'll lose accuracy). And in your case, you'll lose accuracy anyway because it will happen at loading time (if you don't apply a Global Shift) or at the translation time (because the command line mode won't suggest you to impact the Global Sh...
