Vectors/arrows in 3D

Post by Dimitri »

Hi all,

I'm dreaming of the possibility to have displacement vectors or normals that could be visible in 3D. The basics ingredients would be :
. specity a decimate factor for displaying (i.e. 1 point every 10 or so...otherwise, it'll be hardly visible)
. use the local normal orientation
. potentially use one of the scalar for the length of the arrow
. In that case specify a propotionality factor (a small cursor would be great as for the color range)
. When using a scalar : include a legend with 5 arrows of different sizes with the corresponding scalar values.
. An option in which the arrow would have the color of the scalar range (as calculated when it is displayed)

That'd be great to check normal calculations, but also to vizualize directions and amplitude of surface change. Alternatively, if someone knows a free software that could do that, it'd be great. I've done some tests in matlab...it's ok for a few thousands points, but after that it's just not suited.
