building face deviation analysis - point cloud & model

I am interested in performing a deviation analysis on the face of a building and apply a heat map to the face, as well as to perform cross section evaluation on the columns, which have about a 15’ spacing along the building. When I bring in a point cloud into Cloud Compare, it does not align well with any of the main face views and the heat map is not developing properly. I am not sure how to perform cross section analysis of the building face for flatness and or deviation. I would also like to compare the point cloud face to a CAD model design, for discrepancy. I am also interested in identifying what types of data can be generated and presented for use in evaluation of the flatness profile or the two combined profiles.

I guess you could re-align your cloud first? (with the Graphical Transformation tool - http://www.cloudcompare.org/doc/wiki/in ... ation_Tool, or the Level tool for instance - http://www.cloudcompare.org/doc/wiki/in ... itle=Level).

Or you can play with the camera (http://www.cloudcompare.org/doc/wiki/in ... a_settings) and then save various viewports (http://www.cloudcompare.org/doc/wiki/in ... _as_object).

And for the columns, you'll have to separate each of them in new point clouds with the scissors tool for instance: http://www.cloudcompare.org/doc/wiki/in ... ation_Tool, or the cross section tool (http://www.cloudcompare.org/doc/wiki/in ... ss_Section). This last tool can help you to make... cross sections by the way ;)
