Hi everyone,
I’m working with a point cloud dataset in CloudCompare and trying to align two clouds, but I’m not getting a good result using the ICP tool.
I’ve already roughly aligned them manually, but the final registration still seems off.
Is there any recommended workflow or settings to improve alignment accuracy?
Thanks in advance!
Question about point cloud alignment in CloudCompare
Re: Question about point cloud alignment in CloudCompare
Yes, the most important parameter is the 'overlap ratio'. If your 'to-be-aligned' cloud is wider or maybe has non-overlapping areas with the 'reference' entity, then the corresponding point will bias the result. So make sure you set the 'overlap ratio' to something realistic (= how much of your to-be-aligned cloud is in common with the reference).
