Automating 'extract section' tool

Hi there,
I've got a question regarding the extract section tool.
For my thesis I need to analyse the erosion of a sediment bank, which I do by making an elevation profile across the point cloud of the sediment bank, by which I can visualise the bank retreat.
I found that for this purpose, the extract section tool works very nicely, since I can conveniently use the same polyline everytime I need to make an elevation profile. In the tool I use 'extract points along active session', after which I export the coordinates of the vertices for processing in Python.
However, I need to do this proces many times, so is there a way to automate this process?
I saw that the crossection tool does have implementation in the command line, but I could not get that tool to make a profile like I want to. When I made a crossection I (of course) got polygons of all the shapes in that crossection, instead of a single line over the surface. Also, how can I make exactly the same crossection but on different point clouds?
Maybe you have some tips to make this work, if automating the other tool isn't an option?
Thank you!
